"Reductive" is a hot search after Madonna used the word in a "20/20" interview describing her view of Lady Gaga's attempts to mimic some of her style. In the exclusive one-on-one piece scheduled to air Friday night on ABC, Madonna says the results she sees through the "Born this Way" recording artist reflecting that of her own is "reductive" and boldly said to "look it up."

A sneak peek of the "20/20" interview reveals that Madonna would rather let people research the word "reductive" on their own.

In short, the definition of the word means to reduce. Plain and simple. It could be taken to mean that Madonna feels Lady Gaga, by comparison to herself, puts out work in a "minimal" or "simplified form."

This term was based on the subject of Madonna's feelings about Gaga almost role playing her iconic image on-stage.

She said she feels flattered by Gaga's inspiration from her. She did not hold back saying that she finds it amusing, but well done.

It is evident Madonna believes Lady Gaga does things at a lower level, reducing the way she transformed pop music in hits such as "Express Yourself" and the reinventions she takes on along the way.

Never has the word "reductive" made such a powerful impact on pop culture.

Viewers in Portland, Ore. can watch the "20/20" interview with Madonna on KATU channel 2 at 10:00 p.m., ET Friday night.
