Madonna Leaves Malawi With Promises Of Twice A Year Visits!

Lilongwe, Malawi – Pop diva Madonna, who arrived in Malawi Monday, has left the southern African country with promises of twice-a-year visits.

“Malawi has become my second home,” Madonna said Thursday night at a farewell reception organized by members of staff of her Raising Malawi, the charity she set up for her Malawi cause.

“I will be coming here twice every year,” she promised.
Madonna first visited Malawi in 2006 during which she adopted a Malawian boy, David Banda, now four.

She adopted her second Malawian child, daughter Mercy Chifundo James – also now four, in 2009.
Contrary to media speculation, there was no reunion of her adopted children with their natural relations.

Madonna’s private jet left Kamuzu International Airport at 4.30 am Friday, according to airport sources.

During her visit, she laid the first brick, signaling the commencement of her US$15 million Raising Malawi Academy for Girls.

With renowned American economist, Prof. Jeffrey Sachs, and Ericsson CEO Hanz Ves tburg, Madonna launched ‘Connect to Learn’, an initiative bank-rolled by the global telecommunication giant, to encourage on-line learning for kids in developing countries.

Pop singer Madonna has taken her adopted son David to visit his former orphanage in central Malawi.
Chants of “welcome home, David!” and “we love you, David!” could be heard from inside the Home Of Hope as the four-year-old and his mother arrived.

Journalists were barred from the reunion, which took place during Madonna’s week-long stay in Malawi.
But the head of the orphanage said Madonna did not want to break David’s “emotional attachment” to the home.

“David spent most of his first days on earth here,” Lucy Chipeta told the BBC. “We are delighted to have him back.”
“We have preserved his room including his crib,” she added.

As Madonna engaged in discussions with the orphanage’s directors, David and his older sister Lourdes played with the young residents.
However, the four-year-old’s biological father, Yohane Banda, was nowhere to be seen.
Chipeta refused to comment on why he had not attended.

Madonna, in Malawi since Monday, is scheduled to leave the southern African country on Friday.
The pop star, 51, funds six orphanages through her Raising Malawi charity and is setting up a school for girls on the outskirts of the country’s capital, Lilongwe.

Madonna’s daughter Mercy was right by her side today as the pop star laid the first brick for her new $15 million Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, slated to open next year. Lourdes is also on the trip with the Material Mom.

The singer said as she placed the brick with the inscription “DARE TO DREAM” that it had long been her dream to build a girls’ school.
The 15 million dollar Raising Malawi Academy for Girls is scheduled to open in 2011, and will help 500 orphaned children.

Daughters Lourdes and Mercy accompanied the pop diva to the ceremony.
Madonna arrived in Malawi on Monday day for a week-long charity tour to inspect projects she established since her first visit in 2006.
She has adopted two Malawian children, David Banda and Mercy Chifundo James, both four. She also funds six Malawian orphanages, which feed, clothe and educate 25,000 children

Madonna Most Played Artist Of The Decade In The UK!

Madonna was the most played artist of the last decade in the UK, according to music licensing body PPL.

The singer, 51, who had her first UK hit with Holiday in 1984, beat The Beatles into second place and Robbie Williams into third.

Queen were fourth and Take That were fifth in the chart compiled for BBC Radio 2.

It was based on plays – between 2000 and 2009 – on TV, radio and in public places including pubs, clubs and shops.

Madonna was the only female solo singer to make the top 10.

Girl band Sugababes, meanwhile, who entered the UK charts for the first time in 2000 with Overload, were the only act in the top 10 who emerged within the decade being scrutinised.

The chart was revealed on Radio 2 show People’s Artist Chart, presented by comedian Patrick Kielty.

In December, PPL announced that Snow Patrol song Chasing Cars was the most widely-played song of the decade.

Last year, another chart compiled for Radio 2 – also by PPL – found that Procol Harum’s A Whiter Shade of Pale was the most played song in public places in the previous 75 years.

The song, which features a distinctive organ riff, stayed at number one for six weeks in the UK in the summer of 1967.

R.I.P Caresse Henry.

Caresse Henry, a well-known artist manager who handled Madonna’s career during her “Ray Of Light” period, has died unexpectedly at age 44, according to CNN, MTV and other sources. Authorities in Orange County, Calif., where she lived, say Henry died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, CBS is reporting. Details follow.

Henry, a longtime Madonna associate who guided the pop superstar’s career for roughly ten years until 2004, died “suddenly” on Wednesday in Irvine, Calif.m where she lived, according to a statement from Madonna’s longtime publicist, Liz Rosenberg. The statement contended that “despite rumors to the contrary, the cause of death has not been determined and is currently under investigation.” In addition to Madonna, Henry worked with such artists as Ricky Martin, Joss Stone, Jessica Simpson, Paula Abdul and comedian Andrew Dice Clay.
One of Henry’s former clients, Jimmy Demers, a singer who recently collaborated with Paula Abdul, wrote in a post on the Huffington Post that Henry’s death “hit me like a ton of bricks… I’m not sure what details lead her to this dark moment of hopelessness, and I’m not sure there was anything anyone could have done to save her.”

Henry is survived by her two children, Honour Kristen Norman and Ava Caresse Hinojosa, who both live in Los Angeles.
