Madonna, Beyonce team up for women at London charity gig

Singers Beyoncé and Madonna, activist Gloria Steinem and Bishop Desmond Tutu will be among big names reaching out to a billion people from a pop concert in London on Saturday with a message of empowerment for women across the planet.
The “Sound of Change Live” gig headlined by BeyoncĂ©, Florence + the Machine and Jennifer Lopez will be broadcast live from Twickenham sports stadium to 150 countries, and on primetime TV in the United States the following day, organizers said on Tuesday.
The four-hour concert could fund at least 120 projects supporting women and girls in more than 70 nations, if all the tickets are sold, they said.
Organized by the Chime for Change campaign, started by Italian fashion house Gucci, every ticket buyer will be able to choose which project their ticket will fund in what the campaign said was a world first for such a venture.
Madonna will be a presenter at the gig alongside other musicians, public figures, activists, film directors and actors including Indian stars Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan.
“Sixty percent of the children in the world not in school are girls,” Madonna said. “Two-thirds of the world’s illiterate are women. I do not accept this. We need to change this and we will change this.”
In addition to performances and collaborations from artists, the concert, which starts at 1 p.m. EDT, will serve as a platform to broadcast inspirational and provocative films and stories highlighting women’s issues around the world.

Madonna Secret Project Update......

From Examiner.com...

This morning, MTV talked about what is known in the Madonna camp as the “Secret Project.”The civil rights project was supposed to be unveiled a couple weeks back, but Madonna has delayed it. According to MTV and CNN, the project involves Steven Klein, a new song, a new video, and a call to action by her fans.

Madonna shot the video for her secret project last December and recorded a new song that deals with feminist power earlier this year. The name of the song was tentatively titled “Back of the Bus,” but that could change in the final version. It is said to be one of the most powerful ballads Madonna has haver come up with. It compares the struggle women face around the world with the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s.

Madonna has always been an outspoken advocate for women’s rights as well as gay rights. In the 1980s, when gay men were dropping like flies because of AIDS, Madonna preached tolerance through her albums, videos, and concert performances. She risked her career by defending the gay community, but gave them a much needed voice at a time when even our own president, Ronald Reagan, was homophobic.

Madonna has a special place in her heart for empowering young women. In 1989, she released the song “Express Yourself,” which became an anthem for women’s rights. It also became the subject of plagiarism when Lady Gaga completely copied the song note-for-note and used the same vocal style.

There is no official date for the release of Madonna’s latest work. But we are sure it will be worth the wait.

Taylor Swift looks up to Madonna

In a recent interview with Billboard, Taylor Swift said she looks up to Madonna, who took home Top Touring Artist honors.
When asked what she’s learned from the original Material Girl’s legacy, she answered…

One element of Madonna’s career that really takes center stage is how many times she’s reinvented herself.
It’s easier to stay in one look, one comfort zone, one musical style. It’s inspiring to see someone whose only predictable quality is being unpredictable.

Thanks MRama

NEWS: MADONNA ON FAMILY, FASHION AND FEUDS

After Madonna accepted her Top Touring Artist prize at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, the superstar sat down exclusively with “Extra’s” Jerry Penacoli, and opened up about her family, her Met Gala photo with Kim Kardashian and her feud with Elton John.

Rocking a bodysuit and thigh-high tights, Madonna talked with Penacoli about her “MDNA” tour and working with her children, Lourdes, 16, and Rocco, 12. “It was great to have a working family… to me that’s my idea of fun, to be creative, to do what I love to do and see my kids working around me and earning their way in life. My daughter worked in the costume department and she loved it. My son was in the show, and he loved it.”

Madonna explained how she juggles raising her four children, including son David Banda and daughter Mercy James, both 8. “I try to find the right balance between being there for them and guiding them and also being an artist. I’m trying to find enough time in the day to do those jobs well.”

The mom continued, “I try to be very clear with them. This is my persona for work. What we aspire to do is to work and to be good people. If you don’t have those two things, fame is nothing, so I try to drill that into their heads.”

Madonna also loves fashion and told Jerry that when she posed with Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala it was the second time she had met the reality TV star. “I met her years and years ago when she was a little girl, believe it or not. She told me she was a huge fan of mine, and it was during the time I was wearing all of the rubber bracelets on my arms. I took off all of the bracelets and gave them to her and then I completely forgot about it. She reminded me when I saw her the other night. Now she’s a pregnant lady!”

As for her infamous feud with Elton John, John recently confirmed to “Extra” the two made up. Madonna confirmed the reconciliation at a restaurant in Nice, France. “After we kissed and hugged, he paid for my dinner, as he should.”

For those who did not catch Madonna’s “MDNA” tour in person, a TV special will air June 22 on the Epix movie channel. She also announced to Penacoli that the tour special is being released on DVD and Blu-ray in September.

IS RITA ORA MADONNA'S NEW "MATERIAL GIRL” ?

According to rumors Rita Ora signed a 500.000-pound contract to become the new face of Madonna’s brand Material Girl

She’s one of the young stars of the moment, and Madonna didn’t let her go. After Kelly Osbourne,Georgia May Jagger and Taylor Momsen, Rita Ora is the new face of the brand Material Girl.

According to rumors, for this role the singer signed a 500.000-pound contract.

“Lourdes is Rita’s fan and went to a lot of her concerts, so she convinced her mum to take her into consideration “, a source tells The Sun. “They met at the Met Gala last week and Madonna liked her, so it was successful. Rita hopes it can be a way to win the States”.

This is not the first time Ora, who was signed to Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation when she was a teenager, has made the not-so-surprising transition from music to modelling. Signed to Next Models, Ora has recently replaced Alexa Chung as the face of Superga and graced the covers of Elle UK, Hunger and Glamour.

THE MIELE VACUUM MADONNA USED BEFORE THE MET BALL HAS BEEN FLYING OFF THE SHELVES...

© Instagram Madonna

Before she hit the Met Ball in a full black wig and tartan ensemble, Madonna Instagrammed this snap of herself with the caption, "Cleaning up before the Met Ball".

According to our sources, the star was using a Miele S4 vacuum hose to make sure her bathroom was in tip top shape before she hit the red carpet.

Weirdly, Miele have seen a dramatic increase in sales calls for this particular model - so much so that the brand is thinking about developing a new range of vacuums in Madge's honour!

Miele's Marketing Director, Dominic Worlsey, said, "Miele has seen vacuum sales calls more than double since Madonna posted the photo. We've had so much interest that we've contacted her as a potential brand ambassador to launch the 'Immaculate Collection' of Miele vacuums. Inspired by the fashion forward icon, the range could emulate Madonna's most unforgettable outfits; from a pink Material Girl design, to an edgy look reminiscent of her Jean Paul Gaultier pointy braziers.'"

The Top 10 Perfomances On Madonna's MDNA Tour by BuzzFeed Community

BuzzFeed Community has realized a top 10 performances of the MDNA Tour! And you what is your #TOP 10 ?

Madonna announced today that her MDNA Tour, the highest grossing tour of 2012, will air on premium channel EPIX on June 22. Known for her phenomenal tours, Madonna pulled out all the stops on MDNA. Lets count down the top performances of the tour.

#10 - Open Your Heart

Madonna has teased fans with "Open Your Heart" on many of her previous tours, but she hasn't performed the full song since 1990's Blond Ambition Tour. Teaming up with the Kalakan Trio, and blending the song with their signature "Sagarra Jo" (Basque for "Smashing Apples"), we are given a tribal, percussive reworking. Aside from being a classic, fans were especially delighted with a cameo from Madonna's son Rocco.

#9 - I'm Addicted

Reminiscent of "Sky Fits Heaven" from 2001's "The Drowned World Tour", "I'm Addicted" features a Kung Fu Madonna dancing to a thumping bass with some of the most amazing tour lighting ever seen.

#8 - Express Yourself

Come on Girls! Madonna harkens back to her days as a high school cheerleader in this rendition of her classic empowerment anthem! The queen of tongue-in-cheek, Madonna mixed in elements of Lady Ga Ga's "Born this Way" - showing Mother Monster how dancing is really done.

#7 - Like a Virgin

No wedding dresses in this performance. This is the sequel to Madonna's classic 1984 MTV VMA Performance. Stripped down, laying on the floor, and singing with only a piano and violin behind her, this is the most emotional moment of the show. Shrewd fans will recognize the backing tune as "Evgeni's Waltz" from the 2011 film she directed W./E. The song ends with a backup dancer coming up behind her with a corset he pulls so tight it literally sucks the air from her.

#6 - Give Me All Your Luvin'

Cirque du Soleil style theatrics on speed make Madonna's first single from MDNA a show stopper. The high energy "Just Blaze Remix" compliments Madonna's jaw dropping cheer-krumping while a full marching band is suspended from the ceiling drumming away with finesse. Concert goers have never seen anything quite as spectacular.

#5 - Girl Gone Wild

The show opener, Girl Gone Wild opens with the line "Oh My God" blaring through the arena. With a bass line which makes your whole body shake, a pulpit emerges from behind the massive screens revealing Madonna's shadow as confesses her sins. As the song kicks in Madonna shatters the "glass" from which she stands behind brandishing a semi-automatic assault weapon. Mixed with samples from "Material Girl" Madonna is literally a Girl Gone Wild - struggling against the forces of darkness and light. The song sets up the show as Madonna's most visually impressive, with moving set pieces and the largest concert video screens ever to hit the road.

#4 - Gang Bang

Inarguable the most controversial moment of the MDNA Tour, Gang Bang is the tale of a scorned lover out for revenge. A rarity in a Madonna concert, an actual set emerges with a motel room scene. Lots of blood, lots of guns, and lots of violence Madonna is taking no mercy and knows she going straight to hell (if only to shoot her lover again once she gets there).

#3 - Vogue

Madonna has performed Vogue so many times it's hard to believe she can continue to keep the song fresh. But she succeeds on the MDNA Tour with the most glittering and high fashion version of 1990 club anthem ever. The mix may be similar to the one she performed at 2012's Super Bowl (her half-time show was the most watched event in TV history) but the scene couldn't be more different. Wearing an updated version of the classic Jean Paul Gaultier Cone Bra, Madonna proves she is the queen of high fashion divas. This is definitely a trip down the runway everyone can enjoy.

#2 - I Don't Give A

Madonna is rocking the guitar in this anthem to all the single working mothers out there. She's too busy connecting to the wifi to give a * about what you think about her. Nicki Minaj makes a cameo on the giant screens in the background telling the audience "There's only one Queen, and that's Madonna". And of course, she is right.

#1 - Like a Prayer

Probably one of the best pop songs ever written, Madonna couldn't end the show before singing "Like a Prayer". The song is high energy with a full choir standing behind her. Madonna has never connected to her audience more as she reaches out her microphone to several fans throughout the song demanding they sing along with her. This is one of the most iconic performances of the song to date.

NEWS: MDNA TOUR TO PREMIERE ON EPIX JUNE 22

Premium network EPIX will premiere Madonna’s MDNA tour – an EPIX Original Concert Event – on June 22 at 8:00 pm ET. One of the most spectacular and controversial extravaganzas of 2012, Madonna: the MDNA Tour was filmed primarily in Miami as well as other locations.

The MDNA Tour was the most successful and highest grossing tour of 2012 and was seen by over 2.2 million Madonna fans during the course of the 88 sold-out shows around the globe. The concert includes performances of several of her biggest hits including “Vogue”, “Like A Prayer” and “Hung Up.” She also performs songs from her MDNA album including “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” “Girl Gone Wild”, “Gang Bang” and “Turn Up the Radio.”

The album debuted at No.1 in over 30 countries. Madonna, along with her seven member band, outstanding troupe of 27 dancers (all clothed in 1500 costumes) and state of the art visuals and sound electrified crowds around internationally with what the Material Girl termed “the hardest but most thrilling and challenging show I’ve ever done.”

“My show is a journey… the journey of a soul from darkness to light. It is part cinematic musical theatre – part spectacle and sometimes intimate performance art. It is journey from anger to love and from chaos to order. There are good guys and bad guys to help illustrate this point. Sometimes I play both. It must be watched with an open heart from beginning to end. I am sure if it is viewed this way, you will walk away feeling inspired, invigorated and will want to make the world a better place.” concluded Madonna in describing the show’s intent.

EPIX CEO and President Mark Greenberg commented:

“Madonna’s stunning musical performance and show-stopping moves continue to prove that she is truly a timeless entertainer. We launched the EPIX network with Madonna’s previous tour, Sticky and Sweet, premiering the concert the first night that EPIX was on air. We are very excited to have her back on the network.”

The MDNA Show was directed by Danny Tull and Stephane Sennour.
Tull has worked with Madonna editing previous shows and her feature film W.E.

NEWS: MADONNA’S LEGER SOLD FOR $7.16 MILLION

Madonna sold an abstract painting by French artist Fernand Leger for $7.16 million on Tuesday to raise funds for girls’ education projects in Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere.

The 1921 painting, Trois Femmes a la Table Rouge, which carried a pre-sale estimate of up to $7 million, was purchased by an unidentified buyer at Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art sale in New York, according to the auction house’s website.

The pop singer said in April that she bought the painting in 1990 and that selling it would combine her passions for art and education by raising funds for the Ray of Light Foundation, a non-profit organization offering vocational training for street children and poor farmers.

“I cannot accept a world where women or girls are wounded, shot or killed for either going to school or teaching in girls’ schools. We don’t have time to be complacent,” Madonna said in a statement last month.

“I want to trade something valuable for something invaluable – Educating Girls!”

Madonna has adopted two children from Malawi in southern Africa and plans to build 10 schools there.

These measurements were tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Entertainment and Next Big Sound.

Madonna Made A Big Entrance In Givenchy At The Met Gala

After Beyonce took to the carpet, I have to say, a sigh of relief could be heard from the press lined up along either side of the red staircase at the 2013 Met Gala. With King Bey in the house, it had to be all over, didn't it? *Knowing smirk* The Met Gala may have had their king, but there was still one queen who had not arrived. I'm talking of course, about Madonna, the queen of pop incarnate. Just after Bey made her way all the way through the museum's gilded doors, the tell-tale explosion of flashbulbs and European-accented shouting bubbled up from the photo pit, and our sighs caught in our throats. Madonna had entered, wearing an all-over studded, tartan Givenchy blazer fastened over a fishnet bodysuit and very little else. Well no, that's not true. Although Madge's fantastic gams were on prominent display, there was a whole lot going on in her ensemble, including my personal favorite detail: an oversize padlock choker engraved with the letter 'M.' There were so many more things though! From the cross hanging down the back of her ensemble like a sacrilegious tail to her bright red lips and magenta pumps, there were countless details, each one elevating the ensemble to new heights of punk rock perfection.

The consensus among those we spoke to seemed to be that to be punk one needs not necessarily, say, have a mohawk or accessorize exclusively with safety pins, and Madonna was no different. I overheard her telling a journalist who asked her about her upcoming trip abroad to build schools for girls, that "giving girls an education is the most punk thing you can do." UM, YES. 1000 TIMES YES. But so is totally revolutionizing the place of women in music, performing fearlessly, and WORKING not just fishnet, plaid, and piles of silver, but rocking all three of those things, plus a jet black bob AND red lip TOGETHER. Could Madonna be the queen of the 2013 Met Gala? We don't like to play favorites, but let's just say it's a close race.

What did you think of Madonna's custom Givency at the 2013 Met Gala?

Madonna Reminds Us Why She's Madonna

May 6, 2013 | 9:55pm EDT
Did we ever think that Madonna would turn up to the Met Ball in a gown? As if... Reminding the world that she is Madonna, the iconic singer showed up wearing a black Katy Perry-ish wig and showed off those legs. Now that is punk; besides, who could get away with this but the Queen? Loving the pink heels. This is what everybody's going to be talking about tomorrow.

Mario Testino (fashion photographer) said to the Wall Street Journal On Madonna...

"I've had a few lucky breaks. One of them was Madonna asking me to photograph her for Versace.... She spoke with a hairdresser who I work with a lot, called Orlando Pita, and asked him if he could introduce us. We spoke on the phone and she arrived to see me at the Chateau Marmont driving herself in a convertible car. I was so shocked when I saw her. I imagined her arriving with security."
