My birthday last week was such a blessing for me. I was surrounded by dear friends, my loving family, and by you.
The notes I received from the Raising Malawi family were simply beautiful — both in their kindness and their concern for the children of Malawi. Thank you for making my birthday so special.
The note from Sylvia in Great Britain is a message for all of us:
May Malawi, and its beautiful people, be raised through the generosity of those who share your dreams. Thank you for the work you do and the joy you give to your fans worldwide. We are all better people for being connected.
I love how Sylvia echoed the African philosophy ubuntu — I am because we are. We do share a common fate. And we must continue to dream of a better future.
That’s why it’s so important that we stay connected with each other. I hope you will help us raise awareness about Malawi by joining our Facebook community:
Along with the birthday wishes, many of you took the opportunity to make a donation to our work in Malawi. Again, thank you all!
From Alvaro in Mexico City to Esther in Istanbul, your generous donations totaling over $18,000 touched my heart and will change the lives of so many children. I truly cannot think of a better birthday gift.
Thank you again for being a part of this community and the work most dear to my heart.
P.S. If you would like to donate to Raising Malawi today, I will match your donation – doubling its impact on the lives of the Malawi children.

Madonna’s makeup artist, Gina Brooke recently gave an interview to the L.A Times…
Gina Brooke introduced Madonna, Katy Perry and other celebrities to Intraceuticals Infusions, a new Rejuvenate Daily Serum…“Madonna flipped when I did a treatment on her.She said ‘this has transformed my skin.’”
Brooke’s trajectory into the ranks of super successful makeup artists was a fairy tale come to life. Her agent once asked her, “Where do you see yourself in five years and what icon would be your #1 dream to work with?” Brooke answered that she saw herself with a cosmetics contract and doing makeup for Madonna. The agent took Brooke on.
Reinvigorated, Brooke started testing with Herb Ritts’ assistant. Then the agent showed Madonna Brooke’s portfolio and Madonna called Brooke in. “My agent told me ‘Don’t act nervous when you work with her, just be yourself.’ We totally hit it off and I’ve been with [Madonna] for eight years.”
The campaign film for Miu Miu's autumn/winter 2010 collection has been doing the rounds for a couple of months now and we fell for it as soon as we saw it. It stars models Lindsey Wixson, Siri Tollerød, Ginta Lapina, and Daphne Groeneveld, all decked out in the lust-have embellished dresses that have caused such a stir paired with kitten heels, patent bags and matching eye shadow. The girls laugh, play and throw shapes to some bass-heavy dance music backed by strobe lights.
And it's just emerged where they got their moves from - Madonna was on set giving them tips.Apparently Madonna rocked up onto the set of the Miu Miu campaign shoot to meet photographers Mert Atlas and Marcus Pigott and take them for dinner. But she got distracted and ended up directing the video instead.
Ginta Lapina told Love magazine, 'We were supposed to shoot a video, so Madonna said she wanted to direct it. They said she could do it but they weren't going to pay her and she started laughing. She put on her iPod and taught us moves and we shot the video for two hours.'

The 'Sexy Bitch' DJ, who confirmed last year that he was recording a track with the 'Hung Up' star, admitted that he was nervous to meet the singer.
"It was the first time I was properly starstruck," he told the Daily Star. The song will feature on a repackaged version of his One Love album, for which Guetta is still recording tracks.
On his upcoming collaborations, he said: "I am talking to Rihanna about doing a song but nothing is confirmed.
"The deluxe version of One Love is out on October 2

The singer is said to be in talks with promoters which would see her follow in the footsteps of other Vegas acts including Elton John, Celine Dion and Cher.
Metro reports that the deal would push the ‘Hung Up’ star up the list of the highest paid female entertainers in the world to third position, behind Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart.
It is unclear whether the arrangement would conflict with her ten-year touring contract with Live Nation, signed in 2007 for a reported £80 million.

“WHAT THE hell kind of name is Lady Gaga, anyway?!”
That was Madonna, squaring off with Lady G. on “Saturday Night Live” last year, in a segment that should have been much funnier than it was. Both stars did the best they could with the material, but the real sport was simply seeing the two of them together – The Empress of Pop and the current Queen.
The media is constantly comparing M and G. And naturally placing Madonna in the “envious older star” category and Gaga as the “image-snatching copycat.” But even so, fans of both are dying for the singers to collaborate on something.
“Sources” say there could be a video pairing, like the one Madonna did with Britney Spears and Gaga did with Beyoncé. (Although it might be best if Gaga didn’t kiss Madonna at any point. It’s sort of a pop music urban legend that Madonna and Britney’s kiss at the MTV Awards was the beginning of Britney’s downfall. It was supposed to be Madonna “passing the torch,” but the joke is “she sucked the life from her!”)
Now, a video or a song is always possible between M and G, but the next bit of gossip? Don’t dress and let’s consider the saltshaker. There’s a rumor that Madonna is planning her own biopic and that she’s chosen Gaga to interpret her life.
Ahhhh … first of all, Madonna is one of those always- looking-ahead kind of people. She just turned a youthful 52, and I doubt she’s thinking in terms of biopics or autobiographies. (When she turned 50, I asked her if she’d ever retire. She said, “I will when you do, Liz!” So we agreed to be the last gals standing at the rodeo.)
Second, she’s deep into her directing project – the movie about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, “W.E.” This has consumed her more totally than anything she has ever attempted. Music, videos, her past life, her “rivals” are the last thing on her mind.
Third? Gaga has already been so closely associated with lifting many aspects of Madonna’s image, I don’t think she’d play into that by playing M onscreen.
But stranger things have happened in showbiz (Sly Stallone’s big comeback in “The Expendables!) so we never say never.

The nation’s biggest department store reported a better-than- expected 7.3-percent increase in July same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year.
While other retailers, including rival JC Penney, were singing the back-to-school blues with sluggish monthly sales reports, Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren said the season is “off to a great start.”
Lundgren cited the “phenomenal launch” of the new “Material Girl” fashion line, designed by Madonna and her 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes. Aimed at teenage girls, the 1980s-inspired line will include clothing, shoes, handbags and jewelry.
On Tuesday, Macy’s launched the collection at the company’s flagship store on Herald Square with a performance by pop star Taylor Momsen, who drew throngs of girls dressed up like Madonna. Macy’s shares yesterday rose 34 cents, or 1.8 percent, to $19.78.

Momsen fronts the advert campaign for Material Girl, the new clothing collection by Madonna and her daughter Lourdes Leon. And the actress-singer admitted that she did not know what to expect when she first met the 51-year-old music legend.
The Pretty Reckless singer told US InTouch magazine: 'It's insane, I didn't know how to handle it - I didn't believe it.'I was super excited, it's a big compliment and an honour.'But the 17-year-old quickly relaxed around Madge and says she was easy to work with.
Taylor added: 'She's super down-to-earth, she's a very cool chick, which is very nice to see.'She's Madonna, so you don't really know what to expect when you meet someone so successful.'

When an icon like Madonna teams up with a store like Macy's, the result can only be fabulous. High fashion was the order of the day as today was the official launch of the Material Girl collection. Only a few stores around the nation were chosen to participate in the grand affair and the Macy's store at Dadeland Mall in Miami was one of them.
Our coverage of the event began at 10 am. We were greeted in the juniors department by dance mixes of Madonna's tunes. Those who were early enough received a gold bandeau from the collection and a ten dollar gift card to be used to shop the new merchandise. Several news outlets and photographers were there, along with a radio station.
There were fun trivia questions and prizes. Those who answered a trivia question correctly won a personally autographed shirt from Madonna. These were not pre-signed but rather would be inscribed to anyone of your choosing and would be sent to your house by Madonna. How awesome is that? While attending fashion events likes this, it is important to maintain proper decorum. It is impolite to jump up and down and scream "wooooooooooooooo!" in the middle of Macy's, except after winning a shirt autographed by Madonna. Scream and jump, I did after answering one of the questions correctly!
The Macy's event was one big fashion party, including music, dancing, fashion shows, complimentary makeovers and for those who purchased at least $50.00 worth of merchandise from the Material Girl line, you could have your own professional photo shoot. One lucky young lady walked away with a $500.00 Macy's gift card.
I was very impressed about the items in this collection. Many of us in the fashion industry had our doubts at first. We have seen many celebrity fashion lines come and go. In truth, we hold these celebrity lines to a higher standard. To the naysayer who has said, "well, I wouldn't wear anything designed by Madonna", we at Miami Style say yes you would if you have any sense of fashion and style. This line is fun, its flirty, its new and exciting and frankly, a breath of fresh air to the fashion world. While in some of these pieces, you can clearly see Madonna's 80's influence, these designs also have a modern spin.
We saw the generous use of lace, giving the line a feminine and romantic feel. We also noted the use of the color black, which is going to be the IT color this fall as the "Goth" fashion inspired by the movie Twilight will be this year's fall style. We have also noted these influences on the runways of Paris earlier this year, where we saw the use of fur, leather, lace and the color black. Many of the pieces of the Material Girl collection also have these key elements and will lend themselves well to the upcoming fashion trend. The Material Girl collection is not about a single piece, but rather combining several pieces in your own unique way. Once the fall trend fades, what you will have are pieces that you can use to achieve other looks. In keeping with Miami Style, this line also features bold and colorful floral prints. The new Material Girl line includes a collection of shoes, hair accessories, purses, bags and jewelry.
It was previously reported that the retail price range was $12-40.00. The actual range is between $5.00- to $78.00. The most expensive item of the collection that we saw was a waist length studded biker jacket done in a quality faux leather fabric. In fact the clothing in this collection were designed with soft, body conscious fabrics. The garments are well tailored and body conscious and must be pointed out that this is not a plus size line by any means. The sizing ranges from extra small to large. For example, I am 5' 5" and weigh 108 pounds and I fit a size large in this collection. Keep in mind that technically I could fit a medium but as a matter of my own comfort level, prefer my clothing a bit roomier and not tight or binding like a used to wear our clothing back in the 1980's. Macys.com is currently offering shoppers free shipping on all orders $50.00 or more, however, only select items from the collection are available through their website at this time.
We at Miami Style loved this collection and cannot wait to see what else Madonna and Lourdes have in store for us with this label.

LX New York got a sneak peek at the goods last Friday, from floral skirts to sequin shirts. Watch the video above to get a glimpse of some of the pieces to be unveiled tomorrow.
To promote the big launch, the first 200 customers on line at the main Broadway entrance to Macy's Herald Square will get a free bandeau top and a $10 gift card, but the true fans are those who actually dress up like the original Material Girl for a chance to win a t-shirt signed by Madonna. (If you think this sounds photo-op worthy, so do we.)The festivities continue as the face of the brand (and big fan of eyeliner), Taylor Momsen, will take the stage to perform a few tunes.

“I’d have to say it’s Madonna. She’s done a very good job of reinventing herself time and again . She’s been able to stand the test of time with every record, and she’s a new person every decade. That’s what I aspire to. I mean, I don’t even know what my next record’s going to sound like, so I hope I can reinvent myself by the time that comes.”
