Letter From Madonna!

I have always believed love conquers all – yesterday I got to see it in action.

In the last week over 30,000 of you added your name to mine calling for the release of Steven Monjeza, and Tiwonge Chimbalanga – the Malawi couple sentenced to 14 years hard labor for the “crime” of homosexuality.

With incredible joy I am writing to share with you that yesterday, Malawi President, Bingu wa Mutharika has ordered their release. Steven and Tiwonge were freed on Saturday night. They have won their freedom and you have been a part of it.

I would love to hear your reaction to this news. Share your thoughts now: http://www.raisingmalawi.org/lovewins

We celebrate this astounding turn of events with Steven, Tiwonge, and the countless Malawians fighting for their release. It is a historic day for Malawi.

Though they are free from prison, sadly their safety and future in Malawi is still unknown. I hope this is just the beginning of our work together.

Human rights injustices continue for so many Malawians facing poverty, disease, and a lack of critical resources. There are still over two million orphans and vulnerable children who need to experience love’s embrace.

It is going to take the love and creativity all of us to bring justice to the people of Malawi.
That’s why I would like to hear from you. Tell me your thoughts on this important day in Malawi: http://www.raisingmalawi.org/lovewins

Thank you for joining me in Raising Malawi.
With great love,

President Pardons Gay Couple, Madonna Instrumental!

Malawi President pardons jailed gay couple

Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika on Saturday announced the pardon of a jailed gay couple who were sentenced to 14 years for holding the country’s first same-sex wedding.

The President made the decision after discussions with visiting UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon.

Mutharika who is also chairman of African Union has since ordered the immediate release of the gay couple.

“I have decided that with effect from today, they are pardoned and they will be released,” President Mutharika told a battery of reporters after meeting UN boss.

Steven Monjeza, 26, and Tiwonge Chimbalanga, 20, were given 14-year jail terms after being convicted of gross indecency and unnatural acts.

They were told by Magistrate Nyakwawa Usiwa Usiwa they would also serve hard labour as a warning to other gay people in the country.

“These boys committed a crime against our culture, our religion and our laws,” said the Malawi President.
“However, as the head of state I hereby pardon them and therefore ask for their immediate release with no conditions.”

He added: “I have done this on humanitarian grounds but this does not mean that I support this.”

The case has sparked international condemnation and a debate about homosexuality in the country.

Madonna Has spoken out and campaigned for their release! Bravo to Madonna!

Donna Delroy On Madonna.

Did studying Eastern philosophy help keep you grounded when you were traveling with Madonna?

I just imagine, being so young in this exciting, glamorous life…
It always did, and more and more as I developed and grew in that experience. I was touring with a major superstar when I was 21. I was completely lost in it. I wanted to be just like Madonna. I was always comparing myself to her: how can you not? She was my big, famous sister. I was trying to be as pretty as her, as glamorous as her, have nice clothes like her. Here I am, [thinking] I can never have those kinds of clothes: Dolce and Gabbana morning and night. Maybe some day, but not right now! I was constantly trying to compare myself. … But I learned. There was enough time in between working with her that I could go out, do my own thing and develop myself. Every time I came back to do a big tour, it was such a reflection to me of where I was at. Pretty soon, like the last time I toured in that capacity, I felt such incredible love for the audience: that oneness. I didn’t feel I was up on stage. I just realized that’s what it was all about – that’s what I wanted it to be about. I wasn’t into being on stage and being worshipped for myself – doing it as a character role is one thing. But having already gotten out there, my awareness had really changed a lot.

You weren’t on her last tour. Is that change in awareness why?

I think inside I knew it was coming, but I was also pregnant and having my baby. I remember thinking, “I don’t think it’s going to happen.” I remember in that moment, I already missed it: “I’m not going to be on another Madonna tour!” But she’s a person who moves on. She fills a space and moves on. She has a lot of people who work for her, and this is part of the natural experience. I can go down my path and do my thing. I keep it open: when you work with someone for so long you keep it open to work with them again. Maybe not in the same capacity: I’d love to do more benefits and big events, and support her in that way.

M.I.A On Madonna!

…Like Madonna, Maya is not a trained musician but instead a brilliant editor, able to pick and choose and bend the talents of others to fit her goals. They share an enormous appetite and a discerning eye for the intertwined worlds of fashion, art and music.

“Madonna is the one,” Maya said. “Madonna did amazing songs. She had an amazing sense of style, without a stylist. And she was flawed, and sometimes she admitted it. I’ll fight the fight for Madonna. I think she should send me some chocolates or something to thank me.”

…Maya feels that Gaga is not original, that she mostly borrows from the Abba playbook, and she gets annoyed when Gaga is compared to Madonna. “You can’t really say that Gaga is culturally a change,” Maya said. “Madonna was truly unique.” Gavras nodded. “And Madonna was pretty,” he said. “Pop stars should be pretty.”

Lady Gaga "Nobody Will Ever Be The New Madonna"!

Lady Gaga gave an interview to french channel, TF1…Again, she’s being described as “the new Madonna” and the one who’s “showing the world how old Madonna is”, but Gaga refuses any comparison…Here’s what she had to say…

TF1: You are an Italian from New York, people always compare you to Madonna. Are you saying that you’re here to end Madonna’s reign, and that you are the post-Madonna of pop?

Lady Gaga: Nobody will ever be the new Madonna. Nobody will ever take her place. What Madonna did for feminism and for women all over the world, for the sexual revolution, can never be replicated because it has already been done.

MADONNA PICKS UP THE BILL

QUEEN Madge may be pop royalty but she’s no diva when it comes to partying.
When she hit the trendy Aura nightclub in London last Thursday I hear she insisted on picking up the £20,000 bar tab for her dancers.

A club insider told me: “It’s unheard of for a big star to offer to pay when they normally get nights out free."

“All she asked was that none of her own songs would be played, there were to be no sparklers with her drinks and no paps when she arrived.”

Add Your Name To Madonna's Statement!

Dear friends, Steven Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga will spend the next 14 years in a Malawi jail, sentenced to hard labor. They aren't murderers.
They didn't steal. In fact, they didn't commit a crime. They were convicted of homosexuality.

I call upon the progressive men and women of Malawi -- and around the world -- to challenge this decision in the name of human dignity and equal rights for all. Please add your name to mine in a pledge of support for the freedom to love:

www.raisingmalawi.org/FreedomToLove I am shocked and saddened by the recent decision made by the Malawian court. As a matter of principle, I believe in equal rights for all people, no matter what their gender, race, color, religion, or sexual orientation. This week, Malawi took a giant step backward. The world is filled with pain and suffering; therefore, we must support our basic human right to love and be loved.

I will not sit back and be silent while two men are sentenced to 14 years hard labor simply for loving each other. I hope you will add your name to mine, and speak out to your friends and family on this issue: www.raisingmalawi.org/FreedomToLove Love,Madonna

Madonna Throws Lavish Party For Backing Dancers At Aura Club In London!

The 51-year-old singer was thrilled with the way the 18-strong dance crew performed on her recent Sticky & Sweet world tour, which finished last year.

The star threw the party at the exclusive Aura nightclub in the Piccadilly district of London. She arranged for the dancers to be flown over from Germany for the evening, and was happy to stump up the £10,000 they spent on drinks at the nightspot.

“The evening was a thank-you to her team after their hard work on her recent tour,” a source told British newspaper The Evening Standard. “Madonna didn’t have any of her own extra security. She was happy to mix with the dancers on the dance floor and filmed them doing elaborate routines in front of a gawping crowd.”

The evening started at eatery Supperclub in Notting Hill, where Madonna arranged for the group to have dinner. They then moved on to Aura, where she paid for bottles of expensive Cristal champagne. The beverages arrived with sparklers in the neck.

The group spent most of the evening showing off their moves on the dance floor, with Madonna encouraging them to hold dance offs. It’s not the first time the singer has pitted the dancers against each other – she did the same at Guy Oseary’s annual Oscar’s bash in Hollywood earlier this year.

Madonna Speaks Out In Support Of Jailed Gay Couple!

http://www.etonline....7500/index.html

Madonna Speaks Out in Support of Jailed Gay CoupleCopyright 2008 Pascal Le Segretain / Getty ImagesMadonna is speaking out in support of two gay men who were handed a 14-year jail sentence in the African nation of Malawi, the same country where two of her children were born.According to the Associated Press, two gay men, Steven Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga, were sentenced to 14 years in prison, including hard labor, simply because they are homosexual.

The men were arrested in December after they celebrated their engagement with a party, the AP reports. Madonna, whose two youngest children, David and Mercy, were adopted from Malawi, spoke out harshly against the Malawian court's decision, saying, "I am shocked and saddened by the decision made today by the Malawian court, which sentenced two innocent men to prison. As a matter of principle, I believe in equal rights for all people, no matter what their gender, race, color, religion, or sexual orientation. Today, Malawi took a giant step backward. The world is filled with pain and suffering; therefore, we must support our basic human right to love and be loved. I call upon the progressive men and women of Malawi - and around the world - to challenge this decision in the name of human dignity and equal rights for all."

Also Thursday, U.S. President Barack Obama's Press Secretary released a statement, which read, "The United States strongly condemns the conviction and harsh sentencing of Steven Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga in Malawi. The criminalization of sexual orientation and gender identity is unconscionable, and this case mars the human rights record of Malawi. We urge Malawi and all countries to stop using sexual orientation or gender identity as the basis for arrest, detention, or execution."

"Glee" Ready Sequel To "The Power Of Madonna" Episode

Glee's "The Power of Madonna" episode, which broke tradition by focusing entirely on the Queen of Pop's hits, earned Fox's cult show the second-best ratings of its on-air tenure and some words of praise from its iconic subject. Show creator Ryan Murphy is now revealing his intention to return to the Madonna catalog for a second time, telling Access Hollywood , "We're doing a sequel to the Madonna [episode]." Murphy wouldn't say when the next all-Madge affair would air, but hinted that it'll likely arrive next season.

Check out Glee and more of TV's big turns on the cover of Rolling Stone.
Madonna, a self-proclaimed Gleek, gave her blessing to the high school musical when the show plotted its first episode devoted to her music — an episode built around the theme of female empowerment that featured coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) remaking her legendary "Vogue" video shot for shot. In fact, Madonna is such a fan of the show, rumor has it she'll potentially make a cameo. "I can't say," Murphy responded when asked if Madonna will guest star on Glee. "But she's sort of the muse of our show, I think now. She loves the show and has supported it. She gets the show is about arts education and so she's very supportive about that."

"The Power of Madonna" soundtrack connected with fans so strongly, the album topped theBillboard 200. For more on Glee's obsession with Madonna, check out our video with stars Lea Michele, Janet Ushkowitz, Chris Colfer and Amber Riley talking about their favorite Material Girl tracks.

Madonna's Top 5 Workout Secrets!

Ever wondered how the Material Girl and mom has managed to maintain that ultra-buff body on a pop superstar's schedule? We've got Madonna's top 5 fitness secrets right here.
She may not have much to teach us about marriage, but Mighty Madge is a rock 'n' role model when it comes to exercise. Just ask celebrity photographer Humberto Carreno, who stakes out her sweaty comings and goings for Startraks Photo in New York City. "She's amazing. She never misses a day," he says. Here are a few of her stay-fit secrets.

1. Stick to a time, but be flexible.
Like clockwork, Madonna leaves her home at 8 a.m. to exercise. Even the morning after a late-night event, she won't skip her workout. "She'll come out later, at 10:30," Carreno says.

2. Ditch the crummy sweats.
Catch the Material Girl in old T-shirts? Never! "She always looks great, wearing the coolest athletic clothes," Carreno notes. "It must motivate her."

3. Change it up.
"She's really careful about not getting bored. One day she'll go to the gym, the next she'll be jogging in Central Park," Carreno says. "I've never seen her do the same thing twice in a row."

4. Find friends who love to work out.

They'll not only encourage you, they'll join you. Carreno has shot Madonna running with Ingrid Casares; in London, she's been seen leaving her gym with Gwyneth Paltrow and Stella McCartney.

5. Don't overdo it.
Carreno has noticed that the singer never works out for more than 45 minutes. So take heart: An incredible body doesn't have to be a full-time job -- just a regular commitment.

Age Shall Not Weary Her, Nor Her Critics Forget..

Age shall not weary her, nor her critics forget
IT is often said that getting old is at least better than the alternative. Plan B being, of course, death.
...
Women who dare to grow older than 40, and then compound this sin by refusing to dress exclusively in modest floor-length smocks, are after all doomed to forever be mocked as "mutton dressed as lamb".
...
For all the talk of life beginning at 40, we're still quick to refer to expiration dates when it comes to women in the public eye. Madonna's been shrugging off accusations of being too "over the hill" for more than a decade.

Too old for what, exactly? Where is it written that a pop star must disappear at a certain age?
With her eerily taut figure and enough marketing savvy to inspire an homage from Glee, Madonna manages to stay more relevant than starlets half her age.

In the ill-defined terms and conditions that concern mega-stardom, it's only the ability to connect with the general public that matters. So long as her fans remain interested, Madonna - to the dismay of her detractors - isn't going to become a recluse just because the candles on her next birthday cake will number 52.

We demand our female celebrities stay eternally young, but mock them when they try to do so. It's a lose-lose scenario.

If women aren't allowed to get old, but are ridiculed for clinging to their youth, what's the alternative? Dying cannot be the only solution.

Can Madonna Bring You Closer To God?

Can Madonna bring you closer to God?

I just read an interesting article by Wendy Shanker in the Guardian about why she sees Madonna as a guru. She means “guru” as in “an intellectual or spiritual guide,” not the common secular use of “guru” to describe any expert or prominent figure.
It’s fascinating to read about how someone can be moved by art (musical or otherwise) to such an extent that they liken the artist to an almost religious figure.

A Case for Madonna Worship
Here’s how Shanker describes her Madonna epiphany:
It had finally dawned on me what was at the heart of my fascination: Madonna could show me the way to my heart, my spirit and myself. I just didn’t know you called that a “guru”.
And how did she respond to Madonna’s spiritual calling?

From then on, I followed her advice. Be brilliant, bright and confident. Speak up when superiors take credit for your ideas. Demand respect if a man tries to make you feel small. Work hard, and take the risk. I tried to bring “brilliance” to my career and my relationships.
The History of Artist Gurus

Now, Madonna is cool and all, but I’m not really seeing a lot of deep spiritual subtext in her work (and yes, I’m including her later Kabbalistic period).
When I think of real guru-like influence (to the point of worship), names like Bob Marley andBob Dylan come up first. Marley helped inspired his country socially and politically, Dylan was a voice for civil rights in the 1960s. Many other artists, writers, and musicians have also stepped up over the years to fight for important causes. Does that make them gurus?
I would would say Madonna’s biggest contribution is probably empowering this generation of women to express themselves (no pun intended).

However, if the Material Girl turned Kabbalah evangelist inspired Shanker to embrace a path to self-discovery and enlightenment, doesn’t she qualify as a guru?
Look at the legacy of Elvis Presley. He is still worshiped like some sort of demigod in America. People were spotting Elvis at gas stations and waffle huts for years after he “died.”

With the recent passing of Michael Jackson, we’ve seen fans returning to the worship of the King of Pop. We’ve also watched generations of young girls (and boys too) reduced to incoherent tears and screams at the sight of their idols (Frankie Avalon, the Beatles, David Cassidy, Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, etc.) As with Madonna, it seems more about the appeal of the music and the persona and less about a specific message.

In painting and sculpture, you also see this type of hero-worship every now and then. Artists like Andy Warhol blended art and artist into a persona that was just as important as what was on the canvas.

Who’s Your Guru?
Can art illuminate the spirit? Who gets to judge what kind of art is worthy of spiritual value? Is Madonna as moving as Mozart or Matisse?
What must it be like for creators who start out driven by the love of the art, only to see their work actually change the meaning of peoples’ lives and inspire spiritual evolution?
What artists (musical or otherwise) speak to you in a profound way?

Martin Schreiber:New Madonna VS. Pre-Madonna!

Martin Schreiber: New Madonna vs. Pre-Madonna

In 1979, photographer Martin Schreiber was teaching nude photography at Parsons school in New York when 20-year-old Madonna Ciccone showed up and modelled for him for $30.The Man who shot the Pre-Madonna confesses to online social media network, The August Man.

August Man: You shot Madonna nude before she was famous, then Steven Meisel also shot her nude for her book “Sex” in 1992, which was a completely different style from your shots. If you had a chance to do a nude portrait of her again now how would you go about doing it?

Martin Schreiber: I would love to hold an exhibit where I would shoot her in the exact same poses and contrast the portraits side by side. Maybe I would give her a harder edge, since she’s definitely evolved from the woman she used to be. Also I’ll be interesting to shoot the new portraits in colour to contrast with the black and white. As a model, she was very quiet, pliable and she took direction. Some models have ideas and move around and get into it, but she didn’t really get involved. She was a little wooden. I made several phone calls to her agent in Hollywood and even sent a registered letter, but they were never answered. These photos are sweet, innocent and (in them) she’s lovely and pretty. They’re not exploitative or vulgar. I would love to shoot her again… take a couple of the poses and the same lighting from then and photograph her today and put them side by side. I was hoping she’d take the bait but she has yet to get in touch.

Whatcha Looking At!!!

Madonna Joins The Ranks Of The Greastest NSFW Clips Of All Time!

In this media-saturated age, it's getting harder and harder to shock people, especially with music videos. But every once in a while, a clip comes along that really turns heads and gets the band in question a load of (perhaps unwanted) attention.
Onto the list of the greatest NSFW (that's "Not Safe For Work" in Web parlance) music videos in history:
Madonna, "What It Feels Like for a Girl":In the rarely seen clip from the final single from Music, Madonna steals a car, kidnaps an old woman and goes on a general rampage. In the key scene, Madonna swipes a second vehicle, runs over the owner and blows up a gas station before speeding into a head-on collision with a telephone pole.

Madonna - MDG Sunglasses Promo Teaser Video!

FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!

Liz Smith:Madonna Sets The Record Straight.......

"I HAVE always had the courage for the new things that life sometimes offers," said the Duchess of Windsor, shortly before she and the Duke were shipped off to the Bahamas by the British government in 1940. The Duke became governor and the Duchess his first lady. (Their Nazi sympathies caused them to be essentially exiled for the duration of World War II.)

***THE MORE Madonna talks about the next film she’s going to direct, "W.E.," the more I worry. She has the inevitable strike against her of simply being Madonna and any association of her and movies is an excuse to deride the project before it even begins. The initial word on "W.E." was that it would tell, in some fashion, the amazing tale of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor – he, as Edward VIII, gave up the throne of England for "the woman I love." She was the thin and rather plain divorcee Wallis Simpson. (But Wallis had "stacks of style!" as our old friend Stella Dallas was wont to say.)First reports said it was a musical. Now Madonna has put it straight in the new issue of Interview.

It’s not a musical. She has no idea where "that" came from. And the movie won’t really be about the Duke and Duchess, although they play a vital part. It’s really about "this other woman’s journey." Madonna has been writing the script for two years and says it’s "very complicated and a labor of love."

Hmm … complicated. That’s never a good way to describe something, even if it’s true. Madonna will not act in this movie, so her critics won’t have that aspect of her to kick around. The pop icon’s first directorial effort, the little indie, "Filth and Wisdom," showed promise. And she is nothing if not dedicated to her vision – whatever vision she’s working on. "W.E." is bound to be interesting. I just hope it’s not too "complicated."Madonna says she has put music on hold for a while. Raising her four kids and preparing for "W.E." keeps her busy enough. She also said that since she has no record contract anymore – she parted ways with Warner Records after 25 years – she has no idea how her music will get out to be heard. Her fantastic multimillion-dollar deal with Live Nation depends mostly on her touring. Madonna has no idea how her music will be heard? Wow, what have iTunes, downloading and the iPod wrought?!The great big P.S. to Madonna and her music is the wild success of the recent homage to her on TV’s hot series, "Glee."
Not only was the CD from the episode a big hit – with cast members singing Madonna’s greatest hits – but Madonna’s own catalogue numbers jumped 40 percent. People love to say she’s all washed up, but she never is. At 51, she might not be as "relevant" to radio listeners as once upon a time, but there are still a few musical reinventions left. And she is not on drugs, drink, falling into the street, broke, etc. All the things people imagined, 25 years ago, that she would be today. Now, the worst that can be said is she takes herself too seriously at times.

Madonna Ditched The Airbrush: Fantastic At 51!

MADONNA ditched the airbrush for her latest photoshoot - and proved she can still look as good as a woman half her age.

The 51-year-old Material Girl smouldered in fishnets and a lacy bra for the shots for Interview magazine. And the indentation around her stomach, left by the tights she pulled away in a seductive pose, proves that the toned figure is all hers.
In another shot, the Queen of Pop revisits her controversial relationship with religion by kissing a crucifix.

The sultry snaps accompany an interview with director GUS VAN SANT in which she admits that watching ex-husband SEAN PENN in the movie Milk made her cry.
"Milk was such a brilliant film," she told the movie's director.

"I cried and cried. I loved it. He (Penn) is amazing... I could see why he would be attracted to the role and be able to say yes in two seconds. Watching Milk was such a trip down memory lane for me."

Madonna also reveals she sidelined her music career while she wrote W.E. - her film about Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson - and looked after her children.
She said: "I haven't really been focused as much as I should be on the music part of my career, because this movie has consumed every inch of me.

"Between that and my children, I don't have the time or energy for anything else."
Judging by the amazing figure, she still finds time to spend in the gym.
